In Ragnarok Online there are six basic classes that you can eventually become. Everyone in the game will start out as a Novice that has the basic skills to fight and heal a little. You advance to one of the six different classes by doing a series of quests that require you to do something that is class specific. Your Ragnarok Online class can be picked after you’ve reached job level nine and have done the quest. The game offers you a test to see which of these six RO classes best suits you, but it is completely optional and won’t affect your game in anyway, unless you choose the job the test suggests.
The six different Ragnarok Online classes that you can choose from are Swordsman, Mage, Archer, Merchant, Thief and Acolyte. Each of these requires a certain amount of points you’ll want to have. For instance, being a mage you’ll want a lot of Int and Dex to keep your mage doing as much damage as possible. These stats don’t determine what RO class you will be playing, but they do determine how well that class is played. Out of these six classes you advance in level and can do additional quests to gain a sub-job or profession of your original one. For example, Swordsman can become Paladins later on in their career.
You don’t have to do these advanced Ragnarok class quests, but it does come quite hard to advance in your job when you can’t earn anymore skills. Most everyone chooses to take their RO class to another tier simply to get a change of pace. You also don’t have to wait too long between levels in order to upgrade your current job and once you’ve reached the max level you can earn the highest job title for your class and max out all of its skills.
